Pizza Review
This is NOT a pizzeria! Established over 30 years ago on LBI, Foodies is essentially a seasonal unique gourmet bakery/specialty shop known mostly for creative catering for parties & events with a vast variety of food options, which happens to also include pizza. Along with Grandma style “Brooklyn pies,” they serve these bakery style 10” personal pizzas for $15 per pie. Giving off homemade vibes, the dough is thinnish & simple, soft & chewy, rather basic & bland. All of the pies are sitting on the shelves ice cold; so you’ll have to heat it yourself, preferably using an oven. Also, your oven time & temperature will determine your level of crispness; just don’t expect too much flavor or crunch in the super chewy crust. A light shredded mozzarella cheese blend covers the surface of the pie in a rather tight fashion, more rigid than creamy with fairly generic taste & a moderate but mostly manageable amount of grease. Without a true visible presence, the sauce is essentially MIA both physically & flavor-wise. Feels like a scant half of ladle’s worth of sauce, leaving virtually no impact on the taste of the pizza. Aside from the cheese, the predominantly detectable flavor is black pepper, adding some kick but not balanced with any kind of sweetness from the sauce. Overall, this isn’t the worst pizza I’ve ever had but it’s not remotely worth trying. Their other fare looks rather intriguing & I’m sure their catering options are fantastic; but this is not a pizzeria & their overpriced pies should probably be taken off the menu.
