They cut the pizza like crazy people -which I love. 8.8 because the flop was inconsistent, some were nice and crispy though. We got the meatball ricotta and it was delish. And the sauce was the right amount of tangy. Way better pizza here than from back in MD.

I grew up about 20 minutes north of New Haven, and I always bristled whenever I’d see Pepe’s listed as “The Best Pizza Place in the U.S. or World” in some food publication. Although, some priggish locals tend to overcorrect this billing by acting like above-it-all, contrarian snobs by defaulting to the hispterish opinion that Pepe’s is not worthwhile. Those people are fools. Pepe’s is great for its utility. They do toppings well, and regardless of what you order, it will be a very good, if not great, pie. It may not live up to its hype, but it is still a very good establishment, and if you’re new to New Haven/New York/New Jersey pizza, it will be a very enjoyable experience. TL; DR: It’s one of the few tourist attractions that justify the wait, but if you’re in New Haven, Sally’s, Modern, and Da Legna are my recommendations.

Really good, classic New Haven style pie. Great char and crust texture. Not in league with the pie I enjoyed at their Yonkers location though. This medium sized pie seems to have thinner crust overall, which wasn’t an advantage.

Hate to admit this as someone from New Jersey… but this shit is incredible. A tad greasy, but the cheese to sauce ratio is on point. Crisp in the crust is out of this world.

I really loved the crust and the overall pizza was great but the reason I dropped it below an 8 was that the cheese tasted so much like Chuck-E-Cheese pizza and I couldn’t get that out of my head.

Greasy floppy mess. Taste was terrible as well. All the hype for this garbage. Better pizza at any corner pizza shop in NJ

Crispy, flaky crust. Amazing crunch and taste. Worth the wait and drive.

Got the pepperoni here. Place definitely lives up to the hype. The one in Fairfield is good, but the original one is way better.

If you like Neapolitan style, you will love this. Just not my favorite. Great service and right down the street from Sally’s apizza!

Really good flavor. Little flop but loved the thin crust. Lives up to the hype.

Love the burnt, cheese is pretty damn tasty and it’s heavy on the cheese. Cheese to bread ratio is perfect imo. I ate almost a quarter of a pizza by myself. Normally I can only do half and this was an 18” pie. Does not compute how I ate so much.
