Despite over 20 years in the business, Leonardo’s is your standard strip mall football pizza. Looks and smells like a really good pie; but the lack of taste leaves a lot to be desired. The dough is fairly firm but soft & bland, the flavor falls completely flat. No real crisp except for a little crunch in the crust, which isn’t very tasty either. The sauce is plentiful but has no kick; the flavor doesn’t punch through. Lacking sweetness & spice, the sauce needs an assist from some garlic powder or crushed red pepper to give it some pizzazz. The only star of the pie is the cheese, which is terrifically tasty, creamy and melty. Usually the sauce shines and the cheese struggles on generic football pizza. If the sauce or dough provided more taste, it would really add to the flavor of the cheese and bolster the overall score. Aside from the cheese, the rest of the ingredients are too pedestrian, lacking any real excitement and in need of help. The fantastic cheese puts this pie into the low 7s but the dough and sauce hold it back from recommending.
