I’ve had my fair share of great pizzas, including some of Dave’s 9s, so when I saw the TikTok videos from Lioni’s owner, I figured it was time to give this spot a try. I ordered three things: a cheese pizza, the tomato pie, and a cheesesteak.
Cheese Pizza
The pizza was solid. Good flavor, a light flop, and a sauce that leaned on the sweeter side. It’s better than your standard “football pizza,” but it doesn’t quite reach the legendary tier of places like Angelo’s or John’s on Bleeker. Still, it’s a reliable, well-made pie that I’d order again.
Score: 7.9
Tomato Pie
This one stood out more. The sweet sauce worked well here, the crust had a nice crunch, and the dough was fluffy and light. It delivered a satisfying bite that made me go back for seconds.
Score: 8.1
Cheesesteak
This was the weakest of the bunch. The bread was soft, but the steak itself lacked flavor and the cheese was barely noticeable. Not a bad sandwich, but I’ve definitely had better cheesesteaks in the Philly area.
Score: 7.5
Atmosphere & Service
The place was buzzing when I went, and the staff couldn’t have been friendlier. That vibe alone makes you want to come back.
Overall Experience: 8.4
Would I return? Yes. Next time, I’d skip the cheesesteak and try some other menu items, but the pizza and tomato pie are worth another visit.
