Pizza Review
I’m not gonna sit here and tell you Love’s Pizza is the second coming of New York pizza, but I’m also not gonna pretend it’s just another forgettable pie. I grew up in a small town in Italy before moving to Brooklyn, so I’ve had enough great pizza in my life to know when a place is doing a few things right. Love’s lands somewhere in the middle. It’s a good slice. Not great, but definitely good. It comes out looking the way you want a pizza to look. The crust has some color, the cheese has a nice melt to it, and there’s enough sauce to keep everything balanced without turning it into a sloppy mess. First bite is actually pretty satisfying. The crust has a little crunch before settling into a softer chew, and it holds together well. That’s already better than a lot of places. The sauce has a decent flavor—not especially complex, but it tastes like somebody put at least a little thought into it. The cheese is probably the best part. Good coverage, not overloaded, and it gets that nice stretch without feeling greasy. My biggest complaint is that nothing really jumps out at you. It plays everything pretty safe. You keep waiting for that bite that makes you stop and go, “Alright, now we’re talking,” and it never quite gets there. Still, I’d eat it again without thinking twice. It’s dependable, it’s made with more care than most neighborhood spots, and it scratches the pizza itch. It just doesn’t have that extra spark that separates a good pie from one people remember years later.
