Luna Woodfired Pizza

Closest of “Three Kings of Pizza” to me ( Christo’s (Wallingford) , fuoco (Cheshire). We got bacon which was a GREAT choice , only a couple tables which is too bad because this kind of thin char pizza should be eaten as quick out of the wood fired oven as possible (without burning mouth). Great undercarriage, no criticism at all. I will go again soon! Worth the hype.

Another solid pie from the family. Pepperoni had a little spice to it. But perfect crisp and zero flop. Mozzarella was good. Low 8s all around on this visit.

Not for me. Granted - I ordered the New Haven - didn’t realize there would be like NO cheese on it 🤣 ..flavors decent - which is why I even gave it the extra point - and the crisp is on point - but overall too “tomatoey” and too thin. I also didn’t like the smell of it in the car. Not for me.

Very good pie. Right amount of char. This is what CT pizza is all about.

Great pizza but I cannot go over 8.0 like Dave did. Great crust that was thin, crispy, and just enough char. My two criticisms are it needed a little more cheese and sauce. The lack of each left me wanting a little bit more, but definitely worth the trip.

Mushroom onion slice. Carmelized onions were delicious. Sauce was fresh. Pizza was ready quick. They were working hard in there getting pizzas out. Not like some of these other places that can't get a pizza out for hours. Maybe because of the toppings, but I was expecting more crisp. I will be back.

Had a sausage and peppers pie. I wasn't expecting the cracker thin crust, but it was very tasty. I will definitely be back.

🔥🪵🔥BEST WOOD FIRED PIZZA ALERT🔥🪵🔥 Opened in 2020, Luna serves some of the best wood-fired New Haven style pies in Connecticut. If this pizza looks strikingly similar to a Fuoco Apizza pie, that’s because the owners are brothers; and though I haven’t been to Christo’s in Wallingford, I believe a 3rd brother owns that joint. This is not the typical personal size Neapolitan style pizza you see with most wood ovens; and while not nearly as crispy as coal oven pizza, this slightly softer New Haven style pie still has that great smokey, off-the-charts char to go along with phenomenal flavor, despite straddling the line of well done & burnt, which mostly affects the thin & supremely crunchy crust. The middle of the pie is a smidge soggy & floppy due to the heavier amounts of cheese, sauce & grease that the thinnish dough cannot support. Even though the undercarriage is beautifully charred, it lacks crunch, firmness & backbone to provide a strong enough base to carry the other elements. Bearing an uncanny similar taste & texture to Fuoco and Modern Apizza’s cheese, this shredded mozzarella blend is top quality, delectably creamy with deliciously charred cheese bubbles. Super flavorful to go along with a wonderfully melty flow & consistency, the cheese is also smothered by grease, weighing down the pie with heavy excess oil. Likely caused by the butter fat in the cheese, the grease luckily doesn’t damage the flavor of any of the ingredients. Thick & hearty, the sauce is a chunky tomato blend, sweetish but a tad subdued. While I don’t believe the oil dulls the sauce, it’s missing some extra zip & zing. Perhaps just lacking in spices, the simplistic sauce lets the outstanding flavors of the dough & cheese do most of the talking. A little zest & tang could elevate this score into the upper 8s; and a firmer, crispier pie could skyrocket the rating into the elite 9s. Overall, this is still some of the best wood-fired New Haven style pizza north of the pizza capital. Pretty great as it is, a few adjustments such as jazzing up the sauce with some spices to give it a pinch of pizzazz and crisping up the pie to give it a firmer, crunchier base gives this place real potential to achieve Hall of Fame status. I’d really love to see what a coal oven could do for this pizza! But if you like wood-fired pies in the style of New Haven, this is certainly a travel-worthy destination.

My god is this a sexy pie!!!! A little further north from mecca New Haven is Luna Wood Fired in Naugatuck but after one bite you’d think your on Wooster. The thin crust on this pie is intense, well done and charred sooo good with great texture on the undercarriage with a little bit of airyness, light slices. The sauce has that zing to it, very fresh and evenly distributed melding absolutely perfect to the cheese. As with so many of the places up in this area the cheese is special, different from anything near home and such a quality. The flavor is explosive, I think there’s some grated cheese dusted over the sauce as well adding to the flavorgasm with each bite. Ratio spot on and the flavor complex is damn near perfect, each ingredient compliments the other. Opened for about 3 years now Luna is run by one of three brothers, the other two responsible for Fuocco and Christo’s, so pizza is in the DNA here for sure. If you love NH style pizza this place is a must try and another perfect pizzadventure!!!

Similar to Fouco but a little heavier on the cheese. Excellent cook to the pizza, good amount of sauce in there. A great spot to get a pizza in Naugatuck, this is probably in my top 25 (after 200+ reviews) A-Tier pizza

Prez needs to visit this place. Luna’s is up there with the big boys of New Haven and West Haven in terms of quality.
