Excellent char, perfect crunch on the crust. Sauce was tangy and had good flavor. The sausage was also delicious and light tasting with a nice fennel flavor. The pizza as a whole lacked a “punch” for me as it did not have a lot of cheese. I would opt for extra cheese next time and the score will probably be higher.

Modern feels a lot more like a place the locals would frequent. Broader menu, simple pie, shorter line. I really enjoyed the pizza. It wasn’t a show stopper but it was good.

My favorite New Haven pizza & also from the trinity. Whenever I get New Haven of Peace I always get the same topping combo,Roni, Sausage,Onions, Mushrooms & Cherry Peppers. Opposed to most New Haven Apizza using coal & Modern has an oil oven,Amazing Flavor. I like the fact that Modern still is Independent, without multiple locations in franchising. Not that I am complaining about Pepe's and Sally's. I've had great pies in other location, but t's makes Modern standout for those two reasons.

Really liked the flavor of this! The dough/bread almost tastes sweet to me. Loved that this is apizza without being burnt

I ranked my New Haven pizza trip Pepe’s > Modern > Sally’s, which I thought would be the opposite. Modern the least unique of the 3. Dine in experience was awesome, 9.5 fountain soda in old school plastic glass. Modern was a little too charred on undercarriage but overall fantastic. Got half plain and the ingredients were super fresh on the half Italian bomb.

Overpowered by too much cheese. Super greasy, lots of flop, thicker crust than expected. Cheese falls off when you pick up a slice or completely pulls off when you bite. Disappointed it wasn't a tighter pie. Dave and I have never been this far apart on a score.
