Delicious taste

Very good char and great taste, although there is a little too much cheese in the middle which leads to a lot of flop. Overall great pizza.

Ordered 30 mins before closing. Walked in to the pie just out of the oven. Immediately opened the box so it wouldn’t steam. Super fresh sauce was excellent perfect amount of cheese not greasy, a little flop in the center. My wife is not a thin crust fan and gave it a 9.2👀 this is definitely my style, I went 8.4. Posted 8.8 to split the difference. Well worth the drive any day!

Was driving from New York to Boston and saw El Prez’ review on this joint. Hostess was very friendly, and it’s a traditional, old world pizza parlor. The pizza was very good, but I did not fully understand how Dave gave this a rating over 8.0? Fresh ingredients, good char, a little bit of flop, the flavor was solid, which is a compliment, but did not blow me off my feet. Also, tried the sausage, meatball and buffalo chicken. All good pizzas, the sausage was probably the best of the four.

Amazing pie. Char on point; crust was flavorful. Quintessential CT pizza spot. Also points on them roasting my brother with me.

Nice char, heavy on the bubbles. Thin New Haven style in a brick oven. Cheese is a bit heavy but overall it’s a great pie if you eat it very quickly. Gets cold fast!

the real deal and right off the merrit. the plain pie had a crispier undercarriage but both were stellar. so thin that there were holes underneath the bubbles. never saw that before. tangy sauce and great service in a small dining area. foxon park soda ftw.

New favorite pie!!! This place and the people are incredible it’s crazy how it’s relatively unknown and feels like it’s way older than it actually is but on to the pizza. Incredibly charred well done crust flaky and light yet filling in the best way. Sauce was zesty and fresh but still the cheese is the standout to me with incredible flavor. This is one of the best put together pizzas I’ve ever had I will say the best in the area. I know, the area. Drove three hours and worth every second.

This was a beaut. I’ve been to Pepe’s and Sally’s, and wanted to try Modern today but took a rec on a place in Hamden instead so I didn’t have to schlep into NH. VERY glad I did. Blown away, this was a SOLID New Haven style pizza. Is it the water up here? I dunno but that crust is 🤌🤌🤌. Also got a pep and olives that was great. I noticed the sticker on the door that the Wednesday Warrior crew from NJ had approved when I went to pick up my pies, respect. Oh the garlic bread was very very good as well. I’m a purist with the plain cheese and this place nailed it.

💎HIDDEN GEM ALERT💎 While it’s technically not New Haven, they’ve been making similar old school style brick oven pizza since 1995 here in North Haven. The smell of the pie when you first open the box is an olfactory extravaganza, literally inducing a mouth-watering response. The dough is very thin, outrageously delicious, incredible flavor leading to a crispy, yet floury, simple & light crust. The undercarriage has some terrific char and bread crumbs to prevent moisture buildup; however, the dough is more floppy than crispy. A little light on the sauce but it’s wonderfully seasoned with tantalizing tang and enough zip to stand out from generic pizza sauce. The cheese is melted perfectly, a fantastically creamy complexion, tremendous texture and smokey flavor. Slightly greasy, but very manageable; drip & dab where needed. Overall, this is extremely good pizza. A little more sauce and a tad more crisp and we are talking 9s. I don’t hear this joint mentioned in the same breath as the New Haven legends but it belongs in the conversation and is well worth a trip if you’re making a journey to the area.
