Named after the first pizzeria in Bayville that used to be located on the corner of Route 9 & Harbor Inn Road, this new Pies Place opened in 2021. Standard-looking & generic-tasting, this is a rather boringly basic football pizza. The banal & bland dough is of medium thickness, soft texture & missing crispness. Surprisingly not floppy for such a soft pie, the crust is also without char or crunch, flavorless & dull. Despite a creamy & melty consistency, the subpar shredded mozzarella blend has a somewhat funky flavor. Sharp & biting, the taste of the cheese is just a tick off, as if it were expired. Buried in the background, the sauce is overshadowed by the pungent cheese flavor. More savory than sweet, the sauce doesn’t have much kick or punch, in desperate need of seasoning. The pie isn’t particularly greasy or salty, just disappointingly ordinary & pedestrian. Overall, this is nothing more than substandard Jersey Shore football pizza. Without any redeeming qualities, every ingredient needs improvement. This isn’t awful pizza, nor is it very good; with below average taste & texture, it’s a forgettable pie.
