Pizza Review
When I picked up this pie, the box was so HEAVY, I thought for sure they gave me the wrong pizza loaded with lots of toppings. Turns out it’s just really thick dough with tons of fresh & shredded mozzarella that gives this pie the bulk of its weight. Some people call this style of pizza an “Upside Down” pie because the sauce is on top of the cheese. However, I think it’s more of a “Swirled Sauce” pie in the style of Maruca’s in Seaside Heights, NJ. The sauce is incredibly sweet & delicious, but the swirl doesn’t cover enough turf; it needs to be spread around more evenly cause too many bites are just bland cheese & dough. This is a very cheesy pie; I prefer more balance between the cheese & sauce. The crust is uniquely flakey with very good texture & crisp; however, it’s really lacking in flavor. Thankfully the dough has way more flavor than the crust. This is a different kind of pie than your standard cheese. It’s not bad at all, but it’s not great either. I think it’s worth a try but I can see reviews being extremely polarizing.
