Sally's Apizza

There was a lot of hype around Sally’s so I was eager to give it a try. It’s not every day you drive a couple hours for pizza. I don’t get the New Haven hype. Don’t get me wrong, this pizza was perfectly cooked with zero flip and a great crunch. But the flavor left a lot to be desired. I didn’t get much flavor from the dough, sauce, or cheese itself. Hats off to the guys behind the oven, because they certainly know how to cook a pizza. My only critique is the flavor, elevate the sauce, cheese and dough and this pizza will easily be the 9.2 that Dave rated it.

The middle of the pizza is slightly floppy but the taste is immaculate. The pepperonies alone were fantastic.

i mean yeah, it’s really good. that crust is pretty unbelievable but the sauce that everyone was talking about just didn’t do it for me

Made the trip from California to try this place. Pizza was fabulous. The clam pie what absolutely delicious. Zero flop.

Worth the hype

Not a sauce guy but more sauce than cheese worked out. Thin slices were perfect where you can almost finish the entire pizza. Amazing!

I believe my first ever “New Haven style” slice, or what these Connecticut locals call APIZZ. I’m not a fan of an overly saucy slice, which this certainly is. Best parts of the slice is where the cheese is more populous, near the tip and midsection. It’s 100% sauce up by the crust. Speaking of, I loved the burnt and charred crustage - big fan. I know Sally’s is very highly regarded as one of the best spots in the nation. It didn’t change my life but it’s still very good. Throw on some sausage, onions, and hot peps and now we’re really cooking. The white clam pie was fine but that potato pie was excellent.

Not my favorite pizza but definitely a must try pizza.

I know Sally’s is the top of the top for this app but I thought it was pretty bang average. Cheese and sauce both lacked any flavor.

Such a SWEET sauce. Complimented by delicious cheese and a wonderful coal fire crust and undercarriage.
