Tony's Pizza Napoletana

Honest review from someone who’s eaten at some of the most famous pizzerias in Naples and New York. I lived in San Francisco for 10 years but never made it to Tony’s—too touristy, and the hour-plus wait? No thanks. But on a recent visit for Fleet Week (now as a tourist myself), I finally gave it a try, and WOW! The coal-fired “New Yorker” is hands down the best pizza I’ve ever had. We ended up going back three times in one weekend! The only other pizza we tried was the famous Margherita, which was very good—better than most I’ve had—but the “New Yorker” stole the show imo. The crust, the crisp, the sauce, the spice—it all came together perfectly. My son also tried the spaghetti and meatballs and said it was the best he’s ever had. The menu is huge and honestly a bit overwhelming—I wish I could have tried more! It’s definitely best to go with a large group so you can sample multiple pies. Tony’s is a must-visit!

Coal fired style pizza is better than the margarita they are famous for. Best pizza on the west coast of you know what to order. Grandma style is okay. Be careful ordering anything the menu is very large

Review #111 - had the traditional Neapolitan followed by the sweet grandma. I think the beauty and curse of this is how many different styles they’re able to achieve - both pies were extremely solid, but perhaps not elite elite. Neapolitan had nice char, great naturally sweet tomatoes and solid flavor and texture overall. Grandma had a very nice sweet sauce, terrific crust, and perhaps a bit too much cheese with the fresh mozzeralla on top, but either way was great. Excited to come back and try the rest, definitely worth the stop

Really dope spot for pizza lovers. Several different options for styles. This is the NY style 20 in. The bread was amazing, little flop, one of the best crusts I’ve had. The pizza was a little thicker than I like. Sauce and cheese were good, just a little heavy on the cheese to sauce ratio.

Waited an hour for a table here. This seems to be the most popular pizza in the Bay Area. There were so many different kinds of pizza to pick from. We went with the classic tomato pie and mozzarella cheese. Lots of sauce. Not really my style of pizza either but the ingredients were fresh.

Margharita won the awards, gotta give it a go. The sauce is the boss. The crust has the delight of a good bite. It’s just a damn good pie.

Have to get the Coal fired tomato pie, not the Neapolitan! It’s def an 8.1

Great flavor, not too much sauce. Crust was a little too floppy and not as much crunch. Overall solid pizza. Pepperonis were very tasty as well

not my favorite pizza definitely not the best in sf it was too cheesy and had no sauce and the pepperonis weren’t my favorite either, but still solid for California Pizza.

Rating for the Coal Fired pizza only. I was anxious about trying this place for years. They cook so many styles of pizza that I was worried that the quality would drop for the novelty. This can’t be farther from the truth. The myriad of styles is not novelty, but a love letter to pizza. As their box says “Respect the Craft”, which they do tenfold. Their Neapolitan pizza was executed to perfection. The slice shop next door nailed a quintessential New York slice. And while the coal fired lacked the crisp that I am accustomed to, the flavor was there. A must visit restaurant if you appreciate pizza and “respect the craft” as they do at Tony’s.

So just finished a midday linner at Tony’s and to say I was impressed is an understatement. The place was packed for a reason and that’s simply great pizza. Not having had a true “New York” pizza, I think Tony’s had captured and exceeded any thoughts I have on a a great pizza. Crust is crisp, sauce is amazing and the toppings were great!! I know this isn’t a plain cheese pizza but the New Yorker that we ordered hit it out of the park. Wanted to mention the service we had which was also amazing. If you are in San Francisco, this is a must.

We got a large St Louis style pizza with few expectations. Being from St Louis, we rarely see or eat StL style pizzas outside of the St Louis region. That being said, this pizza was excellent! Thin, crispy crust, tasty sweet sauce and the controversial (outside of StL) provel cheese. Even though the provel wasn’t as creamy as many StL pies, it still held up well and gave the pie it’s signature flavor. I loved everything about Tony’s!!
