I drove six hours to get a pizza here. I was going to be in North Jersey anyway, but DeLucia's was still a 1.5 hour detour. It was worth it.
When I got there the Open sign was turned off and the door said Sold Out. I went in to see when I had to order tomorrow to make sure I got a pizza. Living six hours away doesn't give me much opportunity to get one of their famous pizzas.
The guy behind the counter asked me what I wanted and said they could get me one if I could wait a bit. They rang me up and 20 minutes later they brought me a pizza. They didn't have to squeeze me in, but they did. They're obviously not hurting for my $25, they're doing great business.
The pizza did not disappoint. The crust was excellent... Great char, great crunch and great flavor. The sauce was bright and sunny, a light paste like texture and just slightly sweet. The cheese was blistered, hotter than lava and fantastic. All the layers were perfectly melded together. No flop, no slippage... just perfect bites of pizza, each bite.
I'm not a pizza snob, but I've never had a better pizza. This is what pizza was destined to be.
